Doug Amtower's Story
Doug Amtower was given the title of the "IT guy" when he was a young professional because he knew the most about computers where ever he went. Back in the 80's, he would train the employees at his friend's company on Intel 286 PCs. The was when he knew he wanted to teach people about the industry. At this time Computer Science majors were non-existent in Universities and Colleges across the country. Doug did what everyone was doing at that time; he took courses to get IT certified. Doug attended a number of training classes and, after several months, found himself with numerous certifications under his belt, Doug has truly become a subject matter expert. "College is not for everyone and it doesn't have to be your only option in life. This (IT) industry does not mandate people to have degrees, certifications are the way to go."
Love what you do
Doug's favorite part of being an instructor is when his students succeed in their careers. He maintains a high certification passing percentage among his students, which he takes great pride in. "I had some small part to play in that, so whether it's helping the student pass certification exams or advance in their career, that's what I enjoy the most."
Outside the 8-5
When Doug is not prepping or lecturing in his classes, he is a hobby farmer! What began with chickens and Guinea Hogs turned into adding fainting goats to clear brush. Now Doug and his wife are all about living a sustainable life and admits that chickens can be far more entertaining than television.
Final Thoughts
Now, some final words of advice from our tenured Instructor.
"You can do this. You can be successful. I've had so many students successfully pass the certification exam the first time, right after the class. Get out your notepad or word document and take notes. You can do well! So have confidence that you can get through it."
